£2,200 raised for Taunton hospice as demand for new homes continues across Somerset

The sale of 22 newly built Summerfield properties across Somerset since April has generated an impressive £2,200 for Somerset charity, St Margaret’s Hospice.

Property developer, Summerfield, selected St Margaret’s Hospice, who provide specialist palliative care, advice, support and respite to patients in Somerset and their families, as one of their charities of the year and have pledged to donate £100 for each home sold in 2014. This is the second donation that has been made by Summerfield this year and it was made on-site at the Paddocks development at Williton, bringing the total raised to £4,600.

Chris Winter, chief executive of Summerfield, said:

“Earlier this year, I predicted that 2014 would be far more positive than we’ve seen for some time and this appears to be holding true. We’re seeing an increased desire for new properties and have sold 46 homes in the first half of this year. We’re confident that trend will continue because we’re seeing a strong desire for new residential properties; enquires about our Williton, Minehead and Sandford developments grew by 30% over the last quarter. Hopefully, this will mean that we’re able to make further generous donations to St Margaret’s Hospice later this year.”

Speaking about the company’s pledge to help St Margaret’s Hospice, Chris added:

“Summerfield take corporate responsibility very seriously, which is why we select a number of community initiatives and charities to support at the start of each year. As a local property developer that has developed from a family business, we have a genuine interest in the local community. St Margaret’s Hospice helps thousands of families across Somerset every year, and has a tremendous impact on the lives of patients and their loved ones. We chose to support the hospice because of the wonderful work they do and because of the amount of people in the area they will have supported through difficult times.”

It costs around £10 million a year to run St Margaret’s, which provides specialist care to 3,200 patients a year through two inpatient units, hospice day centres and a community hospice service that supports people in their own homes.

Teresa Wort, corporate fundraiser at St Margaret’s Hospice, commented:

“We are very grateful to Summerfield for their support. Three quarters of the running costs are met by the support and generosity of the local community with donations from companies such as Summerfield, as well as individuals.”
