Over 1,850 delegates were given unrivalled access to a host of new products and services from over 80 exhibitors, leading industry experts, athletes and professionals at the first ever Therapy Expo held at Manchester Central on 13th and 14th September 2013 to showcase the new technologies and developments in the world of clinical therapy.
Video footage capturing the noteworthy elements of Therapy Expo, including interviews with exhibitors and delegates, plus a time lapse video of the exhibition build and breakdown can be seen here:
Several exhibitors used Therapy Expo to showcase and launch new products including practice management software providers, Qinec who demonstrated a new iPad app specifically designed for physiotherapists to provide improved clinician-patient engagement, and WriteUpp who launched a new smartphone variant of their cloud-based practice management software.
Cutting edge technologies and techniques also demonstrated, included innovative Deep Oscillation® electrostatic massage therapy that permeated an 8cm tissue depth by PhysioPod®, used by NHS Trusts and a number of top sports clubs and taping demonstrations by Kinesio Taping, which can help in sporting as well as non-sporting scenarios including migraines, paediatrics and pregnancy. Kinesio tape is also used and endorsed by one of the most expensive footballers in the world, Gareth Bale.
Several familiar faces from the GB sporting scene were also at Therapy Expo, including: Emily Sarsfield, British number one ski-cross athlete; Rosi Sexton, mixed martial arts competitor and qualified Osteopath; and Seb Navarro, triathlete and personal trainer. The trio are all ‘Rock Docs’ and were on theRocktape stand withRocktape UK’s medical director and Physiotherapist Paul Coker, who also ran several workshops over the two days, including a session on taping for performance and movement optimisation.
A number of awards were given out during the two-day exhibition, including the Best Dressed Stand awarded to Physio123 who specialise in creating and marketing physiotherapy websites. Steven Parry, Partner at Manchester-based Physio123 on collecting his award said:
“This is our first ever exhibition and I’m so delighted that we’ve picked up this award. We will definitely be back at next years’ Therapy Expo in September 2014 to try and retain our title!”
An innovative Twitter leader board competition in the three month run-up to Therapy Expo to stimulate conversation about the event using the hashtag #therapyexpo, was won by Edward Stanhope a newly qualified Lecturer at University of Birmingham. His prize was a soft tissue massage and mobilisation tool worth over £300, handcrafted by Malcolm Innes of IAM Tools. Malcolm said:
“I was delighted that Edward chose the ‘dolphin’ tool; we’ve had an overwhelming response to these beautiful and practical new products on the market, and to top it all, Edward has recently attended one of our training courses so he’s fully trained and ready to go now”.
Therapy Expo was the brainchild of therapist and Director of Therapy Advertising, Lisa Plummer, who spotted a gap in the market for an event that would link clinic-based professionals with therapy equipment, suppliers and service providers and also provide opportunities for professional development.
“I am so delighted with the success of the first Therapy Expo and everyone who has made it possible, from the delegates, exhibitors, speakers, the venue and my support team including Space Events. We look forward to Therapy Expo 2014; same time, same place, next year.” commented Lisa.
Endorsing the success of Therapy Expo was Rachel Fairweather, Co-Director and Founder of the Jing Institute of Advanced Massage Training who said:
“Therapy Expo has been a revelation for the clinical therapy arena and the venue was literally buzzing with excitement and enthusiasm for what was taking place at Therapy Expo. Therapists and clinic managers were sure to have come away much richer in knowledge and ideas and the speakers and exhibitors had a great platform to share their products, services and expertise.”
