The Weston-super-Mare Business Improvement District (BID) is thrilled to announce a fantastic new family event this Christmas in Weston-super-Mare. The ‘Love Weston Winter Wonderland’ will feature an eco-friendly ice skating rink, family entertainment, Christmas themed rides, festive food huts and a free firework display.
This Christmas, in conjunction with North Somerset Council, the Town Square will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland that’s free to enter, full of delights and offering all-round festive family fun from Thursday 22 November, and will be open for business for an incredible 45 days until the 6 January 2013.
The eco-friendly ice rink supplied and managed by Event Attractions, who have brought other attractions the resort this year including the seafront log flume and carousel, will take center stage at the Wonderland and promises to be an essential experience this winter, offering great fun for all ages and abilities and will have special sessions for groups and schools.
The skating rink will be set against a backdrop of several pretty wooden chalets, serving delights such as a Christmas carvery, German style Bratwurst swing grill and sweet treats including crepes, waffles, doughnuts and mulled wine. A programme of entertainment including circus acts and Titan the Robot will dazzle and get everyone enjoying the Christmas spirit, plus rides including Santa’s sleighs, swings and carousel will keep the children happy too!
The annual Christmas lights switch-on organised by Weston Town Council will take place on Thursday 29 November with activities starting from 4pm on the day with Nova radio, followed by a free firework finale after the light-switch event, by the stars of this year’s Pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, at the Playhouse.
There will be more announcements in due course and full details including opening times and charges, are detailed on the dedicated website for the event www.westonwinterwonderland.com or followwww.facebook.com/westonwinterwonderland for exclusive competitions and latest news.
Tim Lamb, Chair of the Weston BID says:
“I really want people to come out and support our town this Christmas with our new event, that’s part of our ‘Love Weston’ campaign. It’s a tough time economically for everyone, but I hope that the Wonderland will offer more than we’ve ever seen before in Weston. So I would urge people to visit and enjoy the first of many events we’ll be staging in the town and enjoy what we have to offer here – there really is something for everyone”.
Note to Editors:
The Love Weston campaign is funded by the local business community in a designated area of the town center and sea front of Weston-super-Mare, as part of the Business Improvement District (BID), a scheme introduced by the UK government in 2004 to strengthen and regenerate town centres. The BID in Weston-super-Mare is managed by the Town Centre Partnership and runs from 2012 to 2017 and has the objective of enhancing and improving the trading environment in the town centre and sea front areas to attract more business and investment as a result of profile raising campaigns and other initiatives.
